Browser games are a category of computer games that are powered and run through an Internet
browser. To play a browser game, you simply need an Internet connection and a browser
program, such as Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer or Google Chrome. Playing a browser
game doesn’t require any game client downloads, making browser games accessible from any
PC anywhere in the world. Browser games can be both free-to-play or require a subscription.
There are several categories of browser games that are played out in a variety of
different settings. Browser games usually fit one of several varying themes, which
include fantasy, farming, mafia, war, underwater, animals and more. They are played out
across numerous ages including the Stone Age, the ancient world, the middle ages, the
modern ages, the present and the future.
The primary categories of browser games include strategy games, fun games, 3D games,
role-playing games, simulation games, sport games, manager games, action games and
racing games. Each of these genres provide varying challenges, tasks and quests for
players. Strategy browser games involve players expanding and building up cities or
empires using tactical skills. Role-playing games put players in the role of a certain
character, usually exploring mysterious lands and completing missions, and manager
games put players in charge of their own sports team.
Browser games are usually given a rating which suggests the game’s suitability for
certain age groups. Some games will contain graphic or violent scenes and should only
be played by adults, whereas others are suitable for players of all ages.
