Browser based role-playing games (RPGs) are played out in a variety of interactive historical and cultural settings and environments. Role-playing is a genre that involves players adopting a particular character role in a mostly fictional setting. In a role-playing game the emphasis is usually on collaboration and interaction with other players, in comparison with sports games which primarily focuses on competition against other players.
Usually there is an intricate game storyline that unfolds as your character progresses through the game. As you level up in a role-playing browser game, more of the narrative is revealed along with new instances and game environments. In a browser based role-playing game your character is given the opportunity for development and growth. This includes learning new skills, obtaining new equipment and weaponry, and increasing overall strength and in-game status. Often you are able to personally customize your character’s physique, clothing, hair color and style, bringing elements of your own personality into the game.
Players control the actions of their character, and usually participate in a variety of quests, missions and battles against other players. These quests are usually directly connected to character development. Often these quests are handed out by non-player characters (NPCs), which are hand-coded using a script. In addition to quests, players may also participate in exploration of a game world or combat against one or more rival players or enemy monsters.
